France pull off craziest tactic of the year

When France centre Jonathan Danty went off after 12 minutes in Marseille on Saturday after the infamous incident with Pieter-Steph du Toit, the obvious decision seemed to be to bring Matthieu Jalibert on at fly-half and to put Romain Ntamack in at inside centre.

Instead, Fabien Galthie chucked Stade Francais No8/flanker Sekou Macalou on the wing, moving Yoram Moefana into the midfield, and to be honest, it paid off.

Macalou looked seriously dangerous on the wing, whether that be running hard with ball in hand, chasing kicks or smashing players into touch. Then again, despite being forward, he definitely has the pace of a back, and he showed that against the Boks. This could actually be something that France do more often going forward, starting with a 6-2 split on the bench but with the ultimate utility player. Not many teams can rival that.
