Saracens land knockout blow in social media battle with Bristol Bears

The social media war between Saracens and Bristol Bears over the last week may have come to an end after the London club delivered the finishing blow today.

After Max Malins signed for Bristol last week ahead of next season, the Bears hinted at a possible move for Ben Earl as well, who spent a season on loan at Ashton Gate with Malins while Saracens were in the Championship.

The Bears shared a picture of Earl, Malins and scrum-half Harry Randall, with the message “miss you,” last week, to which Saracens replied “don’t you dare.”

Well Sarries made sure there is no chance the flanker is going to follow the fullback west at the end of the season by extending his contract. Alongside the news, the three time European champions delivered the coup de grace on social media.

A video was shared of Earl looking at that same picture, mimicking the meme, before throwing it in the bin and replacing it with a photo of himself with fellow Saracens and England teammates Maro Itoje and Nick Isiekwe.

Bristol conceded defeat, writing “sublime content” on Twitter.

“Saracens is the club I call home and I’m delighted to have extended my contract here,” the 13-cap England flanker after signing the new deal. “We have a massively exciting journey ahead over the coming years and I’m determined to play my part in making sure we achieve our goals.”

Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall said: “Ben is an important and popular member of our squad who is well respected by everyone at the training ground. His performances over the last few seasons have been consistently strong but his game has gone to a different level at the start of this campaign. We are obviously delighted that he will be extending his time at the club.”
