The moment Eben Etzebeth finally put Maro Itoje battle to bed in savage fashion
The ongoing battle between Eben Etzebeth and Maro Itoje might have come to an end at Twickenham on Saturday when the Springboks comfortably dispatched England 27-13.
The Bok lock was at his sensational best, tackling and carrying hard, chasing kicks like a wild animal and disrupting England’s scrum.
To top it off, Etzebeth even grabbed a try in the second half which ultimately sealed the result. Though Etzebeth didn’t necessarily beast Itoje for the try, sight of him diving over the line with Itoje standing helplessly next to him and complaining to the referee sums up the situation.
This makes it all the more confusing how Etzebeth was not even included in the World Rugby team of the year, let alone make the shortlist for the player of the year.
Take a look at the try:

This is the damning image:
Since then, Bok fans have only been saying one thing about the rivalry that the two locks have. This is what has been said:
“Can we finally say that Etzebeth is 10x Itoje? I mean surely this conversation is over? #ENGvRSA
@elonmusk please can we fact check this? #FactCheck”
“Comparing Itoje and Etzebeth, one is world class, the other plays for Saracens #SSRugby #ENGvRSA #rugby.”
“Can we now please stop this Etzebeth vs Itoje kak. Only thing Itoje is better at is accepting silver medals.”
“@EnglandRugby WHAT HAPPENED HOW DID YOU LOSE TO A C TEAM? And don’t ever compare Itoje to Etzebeth ever again…”
“If I ever hear Maro Itoje being compared to Eben Etzebeth again…it’s not even close. #AutumnNationsSeries #ENGvRSA.”
“England this. England that. Eddie Jones this. Eddie Jones that. Maro Itoje this. Maro Itoje that.
And then they met Eben Etzebeth.
The end.
#ENGvRSA”
“Surely now is the time when the English Press bends the knee and acknowledges that Eben is head and shoulders above Itoje!!”
“Eben Etzebeth is everything Maro Itoje wishes he was”
