World Rugby have just released footage of the greatest try assist of all time

World Rugby have just dropped full footage of the classic 2003 World Cup quarter-final clash between England and Wales.

This was one of the all-time great Webb Ellis Cup test matches.

England had gone into the tournament as firm favourites with many pundits expecting them to breeze past Wales who had had a forgettable 2003 season.

In the previous round the men in red had given the All Blacks a run for their money with an exceptional display of running rugby and were searching for a big scalp in this knock out fixture.

This contest is perhaps most memorable as being the game in which Welsh rugby legend Shane Williams truly arrived onto the international stage.

The prolific winger with arguably the greatest step the world has ever seen was in electrifying form in this last-eight contest.

Just short of the half-hour mark he wowed the crowd at Suncorp Stadium with the greatest try assist of all time.

The Welsh had been running the English ragged and with little in way of attacking options centre Mike Tindall kicked long and wide attempting to relieve some pressure.

Shane Williams was lying in wait and capitalised on England’s broken defence first stepping inside lock Ben Kay with ease before drawing in Jonny Wilkinson to release scrum-half, Gareth Cooper, on his inside.

The half-back raced away into the English half before popping it onto Gareth Thomas who was clear into space.

The Welsh full-back was hauled down by the retreating Wilkinson but not before he got his pass away to Shane Williams who juggled the ball in the air committing the covering Ben Cohen – before throwing a sublime inside pass to Stephen Jones for an exceptional score.

You can hear the amazement in the commentator’s voices at having just witnessed this incredible passage of play.

World Rugby have been pulling a blinder over this lockdown period with these matches!
