Cheap shot after final whistle in Cup semi-final sparks all out brawl
If you ever want to see what a sore loser looks like, look no further than France’s Esteban Capilla at the HSBC Toulouse Sevens at the weekend.
Playing in the Cup semi final against Ireland in front of a home crowd, France were comfortably beaten as Ireland reached their first ever Cup final. With the score at 24-7 to the Irish with three seconds remaining, Billy Dardis kicked the ball out while running back to his line. However, whilst his back was turned, France’s Capilla smashed into him and sent him flying.
Nothing resulted from it in terms of injuries, but as far as cheap shots go this was pretty shambolic. It could have been worse as well as Dardis was certainly not expecting the shot, not only because his back was turned but because it was the end of the match.
This enraged Ireland’s Bryan Mollen, who charged in to defend his teammate, which is understandable. From there, more and more players joined the melee. Of course, Ireland had the last laugh though as they progressed to the final against Fiji, although they were unable to get the job done as they lost 29-17.
SEM Ruggas shared the incident online, and it does not paint the Frenchman in a good light. Take a look:
