There were sickening scenes in today’s South African Currie Cup clash in the match between Western Province and the Sharks.
The disgusting hit spread like wildfire across Whatsapp groups and Twitter pages with many onlookers worried for the welfare of the Sharks player who was not expecting this emergency appointment with the chiropractor.
This game was made all the more noteworthy with this being the last time that we get to see teams play at Newlands which is currently the oldest rugby stadium on the planet.
The moment from today’s clash occurred in the 25th minute of the game with the Sharks leading the match by 0-9. Fans had been complaining on social media that the game had been a bit of slow burner – well if that was the case, then this hit poured gasoline all over the encounter.

Some fans likened the deckchair hit to a classic tackle from South African Schalk Burger some years ago. Did you agree with this take?
That hit on Nohamba reminds me when Schalk Burger smoked Fourie du Preez in Newlands years ago #WPvSHA #CurrieCup

Some fans even questioned whether the tackle was even legal at all.
What’s the law on tackling someone in the air (if he’s not contesting to catch a kick) Surely that was an illegal tackle on Nohamba? 🤔 #CurrieCup pic.twitter.com/IEgFIDEoCY
